As you where informed yesterday afternoon we where looking into the matter of slow resonse times / low performance in front-end and back-end Synkron.
I'm plased to announce that this issue now has been solved by the Synkron Development Team and we are back to normal again.

For the tech geeks out there... here is the explanation:
Synkron have conluded that the problem did reside in a server issue and not a software issue. This issue resulted in a deadlock of the server, which meant that the server-side cache didn't work properly and processes was queuing up - waiting for each other to finish.
Performace Measurement
To measure the performance in the future we have installed a little script which is executed every time a page is loaded.

Dear all,

We have for some time been aware of that the performance on your Synkron web sites has been decreasing. This is mainly due to the fact that all web sites (except Rockfon) are placed on the same server and the number of sites has been growing rapidly.

During peak hours more than 1.600 persons have at the same time visited some of these sites which has been stressing the server enormously.

After thorough analysis it was determined that a capacity increase was necessary and this has resulted in the installation of 2 new servers in addition to the existing server.

Monday 2005-04-18 and Tuesday 2005-04-19 we will execute the implementation and you may in this time frame experience that the backend administration is locked. This is done so you don't edit a wong version.

The execution will not involve any down-time at all for visitors.

ClientStep Update (version 4.5) Visitor Intelligence - ClientStep update (version 4.5)Instadia is proud to announce the release of C
Instadia is proud to announce the release of ClientStep version 4.5. This new version is focused on three main areas:

Authenticated Visitors Tracking

To enhance the accuracy of tracking for authenticated visitors, we now offer "Authenticated Visitors Tracking". This is especially useful for Intranet, Extranets and web applications where the visitor is authenticated by a user-id, where ClientStep is now able to track visitor behavior based on the user-id rather than based on browser cookies.

Use of the authenticated users tracking is documented in the ClientStep Tracking Implementation Guide, which can be downloaded from ClientStep under "User profile", "Tracking scripts".

General enhancements

A new version of the Interval Selector is introduced expanding the possible time-intervals you can select greatly. At the same time we have introduced one-click preset buttons for most common time-intervals such as last week, this month etc.

A new Account Selector is introduced, making it much easier and faster to define and change included accounts. The Account Selector is introduced in both "User profile, Included accounts" and "Administration".

You can now select if you would like ClientStep to start in e.g. Analysis Manager after login instead of on the front page. This is selected under "User profile", "System properties".

In Navigation Explorer you can now go directly to the result page for saved explorers and change the time interval directly on the result page.

Significant capacity improvements

ClientStep has been upgraded to speed up analysis time and allow you to analyze billions of page impressions.
Additionally, ClientStep will now keep the result of all analyses that have been run, so the result is immediately ready in case the same analysis should be run again.

For more information please see the full functionality overview here or contact me for further explanation.

The next major release, ClientStep 5.0, is scheduled for end December 2005. This release will introduce groundbreaking functionality for building and distributing fully customized reports.

Kind regards,

With our recent upgrade to Synkron version 3.7 we also got a minor bug/error which you may have experienced.

You have noticed that you can click "Log me in automatically" and Synkron will remember your username/password and automatically take you to the site tree.

This does however not always work and you may occasionally see the picture below:

The login text keeps coming back when you click login and you will not be able to login.

Synkron is working hard on a fix which will be issued with a service pack 1 but until that time you can manage the situation by clearing your cookies in Internet explorer and trying the login again.

(Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete cookies)

Dear all,

The upgrade of the Synkron performance is now finished and we are now hosted on a total of 3 servers compared to 1 before.

This has increased performance significantly both backend and frontend.

Please note that the address of Synkron administration may have changed but you can always be sure to access it via:

www.your-domain.xx/admin

The focus on performance does not end here. We are committed to delivering the best service and in the time to come we will concentrate on cleaning up the databases (make them smaller), distributing the load on the servers correctly and splitting up licenses for further increased performance.

Technical note:

If you want to know how long it takes to create a specific page please right click the page and select "view source". You will then see domething which resembles the lines below.
The important information to be derived from below is that the page was not cached on the server (meaning that I am the first to view it) and it took 2,2 seconds to create. Any time above 2,2 seconds is either due to a slow internet connection or a slow PC.

Synkron.web 3.7 Release Information Synkron.web 3.7 Release Information Next week the new version of Synkron (3.7) will be installed on
Next week the new version of Synkron (3.7) will be installed on our servers. Below you can see some of the significant changes/improvements.

A full functionality overview is available here.

New features include:

Performance (improvement)

The system is speeded up both for editors/authors and visitors of the site. The indexing of content is postponed slightly compared to the actual operations. This means, as an example, that when an editor copies or deletes large branches in the site tree, the system will respond almost immediately. As an editor you would previously have to wait for the system to adjust the index according to the change made to the content, but now the indexing is slightly postponed.

Visitors of the site will notice that pages display faster. Cached pages and navigation can
be sent from the server at a faster speed, and most pages containing form elements
(Contact, Search Plus Form and others) no longer prevent the entire page from being
cached.

Content Forms (new module)

On too many websites, too many authors have too many possibilities. This makes the process of delegating the work related to updating a site complex, because new bottlenecks arise or because education of users is necessary. By using Content Forms, the responsible editor can define fixed frames for the work of the authors. Besides this, it will be easier for authors to create new content and maintain existing content in the system because these tasks are done through fixed templates for document types.

Automatic login (improvement)

Synkron have implemented the possibility of automatic login to the system. If you log in to
Synkron.web several times a day, you will appreciate this feature. When you have
checked the check box once, you will never see the login page again.

Test mails from Newsletter (improvement)

In version 3.6, Synkron improved the Newsletter module and made it possible to create a
newsletter as a regular page which could then be mailed out. Using HTML based newsletters
makes it very important to be able to control whether the newsletter looks as
intended. We therefore introduce the option of sending out a test mail before the newsletter

Introduction

Google is clearly the best general-purpose search engine on the web. But most people don't use it to its best advantage.
Google is a remarkably powerful tool that can ease and enhance your internet exploration and help you know more about your site and how it is positioned in the search engine.

Google's search options go beyond simple keywords. Let's look at some of Google's lesser-known options.

1. Know your friends, who is linking to your web site?

The query [link:] will list webpages that have links to the specified webpage. For instance, [link:www.rockwool.com] will list webpages that have links pointing to the Rockwool homepage. Note there can be no space between the "link:" and the web page url.

e.g. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=link%3Awww.rockwool.com&btnG=Search

Note: The more web sites are linking to your site the more important it is considered in Google.

2. Know your site, what information does Google have on you?

If you include [site:] in your query, Google will restrict the results to those websites in the given domain. For instance, [flexi site:www.rockwool.dk] will find pages containing information about FLEXI indexed by Google from www.rockwool.dk.
Note there can be no space between the "site:" and the domain.

This functionality is also available through Advanced Search page, under Advanced Web Search > Domains.

e.g. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=flexi+site%3Awww.rockwool.dk&btnG=Search

3. Know your competition, what keywords are competitive?

The Google Suggest feature offers keyword suggestions as you type in real time and gives you the number competitive sites using the same keyword.

Try typing in rockwool…

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

4. See what others are saying about you and your competitors

Google Alert (www.googlealert.com) monitors your search terms and e-mails you information about new additions to Google's web index. (Google Alert is not affiliated with Google)

Dear Friends,

The Synkron server was upgraded during the night to version 3.6 and we have one serious issue which we work hard to solve.

Currently you cannot edit text or images in a paragraph - the visual editor comes up blank
Work-around: copy the text, insert it as a new object and delete the old object.

We are working hard to fix this issue and I recommend that you do not make any changes to your sites as we may have to roll back the installation to version 3.5 as of 2004-11-23 23.00 hrs.

If you have discovered any other issues please send a mail to both me (peter.hestbaek@rockwool.com) and "CC" Jesper Madsen (jesper.madsen@rockwool.com).

Dear Friends,

Your ClientStep installation has now been updated to the latest version and this involves some new functionality. E-mail Reports are now generally available Filter Builder Toolbox Change data on an entire report with one clickNew visitor filters in Filter Builder Change of ”no referrer” in filtering and reports Revision of ClientStep terminology
ClientStep E-mail Reports

You can now have all report automatically distributed in PDF format
(Tables of content that span more than one page will not be included in PDF reports)

ClientStep Filter Builder Toolbox

New “Toolbox” folder with ready-made templates and example filters Maintained by Instadia. These are available in the new FilterBuilder module (advanced analysis).

Change date on all analysis in a report

The requested feature to change analysis period on an entire report instead of an analysis at a time is now implemented.

New visitor filters in ClientStep Filter Builder

New visitor filters have been added to Filter Builder. With the new filters you can filter across sessions in such a way that a visitor’s data is viewed as if the visitor had only one session in the analysis period, i.e. by ignoring the session boundaries

Example of a filter you can now build:
”all visitors that came from a specific banner and completed a conversion within 30 days”

Related Filter Builder changes:
–New distance filter for both session and visitor
–Most session filters have been renamed to avoid naming confusion

Change of ”no referrer” in filtering and reports
The accuracy of "no referrer" has been improved! "No referrer" is no longer counted when a new session is initiated as a result of a timeout during a visit. A typical case where this may occur is during a booking procedure, where e.g. the payment step takes longer than 30 minutes to complete. In this case the referrer is now marked as "Internal navigation", which helps you identify the frequency of such session timeouts. This improvement will only be effective for data collected after the release of ClientStep v. 4.2.2.

Improved Workflow Management
The Workflow Management module has been modified with the following:

- In the Site Tree’s search tool, a new search option "Type is: Page I can edit" is available. This will filter the Site Tree so that only pages, section pages and navigation links that the editor is allowed to edit are shown.

- On Edit page, the eye icon of the Draft Site Tree now opens the draft in preview mode instead of edit mode.

Bug fixes

- When submitting a text, if an ampersand character (‘&’) was present, any text after the ampersand would not be indexed for search. This is no longer the case.

- On Edit paragraph, copying the template while the paragraph had contents could under certain circumstances result in the contents to be disorderly placed. This is no longer the case.

- When editing Newsletter Unsubscribe paragraphs, the first mailing list in the dropdown menu would be selected even though another mailing list had been selected at an earlier time. This is no longer the case.

- Submitting a newsletter when having Statistics logging disabled in the System preferences would generate a session error. This is no longer the case.

Improvements and bug fixes

Improved design sets
The standard design sets have been updated. DOCTYPE information has been added, and JavaScript code has been moved to the bottom of the source code for improved search engine placement. In addition to this a number of new parameters have been added to all design sets not using frames. For these design sets, a Page title prefix can now be inserted, as well as a Page script area and a Page footer. Furthermore the background colour of the content area can now be specified separately from the overall background colour of the page.

Paragraph editor tweaks
When the content of the paragraph is displayed, the background colour is no longer inherited from the design set. Instead the background colour is always white by default.

In the visual editor, links are now generated with relative URLs for increased portability, and they can now be created and previewed without errors being generated. In addition to this, text coloured in the visual editor now appears in the correct colour on the Web site.

In the html editor, line breaks are no longer removed when an existing piece of code is edited. Additionally, Synkron.web no longer parses the submitted html code, which means that JavaScript function calls are no longer lowercased, etc. If the html editor is used for JavaScripts, forms,
Meta tags, etc
